Why a payment integration takes the load off the counter
A rental fee, a deposit and sometimes a damage charge: several payments come together at check-out, and a deposit has to go back out at check-in. Handle that separately from the booking, say through a standalone card reader or a manual transfer, and someone has to work out afterwards which payment belongs to which contract.
